The challenge lay in choosing a worksurface that could anchor a bold design choice—deep green cabinetry—while offering the practicality modern life demands.

The Challenge: Beauty vs. Brawn

The client loved the luxurious, veined appearance of classic Italian Carrara marble. It’s a look that evokes history and sophistication. However, they were also keenly aware of the realities of a busy kitchen. Natural marble, while beautiful, is a porous stone susceptible to staining from things like coffee, wine, and acidic foods. It requires regular sealing and careful maintenance, which wasn’t ideal for their lifestyle.

Their goal was clear: find a material that captured the classic marble aesthetic but delivered superior durability and low maintenance. It needed to be the perfect, elegant partner for their chosen green cabinets.

Our Solution: The Power of Carrara Quartz

The answer was 30mm polished Carrara Quartz. This engineered stone provided the perfect solution. It beautifully mimics the soft white background and delicate grey veining of its natural marble counterpart but is engineered for performance. Being non-porous, it’s highly resistant to staining and doesn’t require sealing. It’s also incredibly hard and resistant to scratches and chips, making it an ideal surface for the rigours of daily use.

We proposed a comprehensive installation using the quartz not just for the worktops, but for all surrounding surfaces to create a truly seamless and high-end finish.

Key Features & Craftsmanship

A luxury finish is defined by its details. We didn’t just install a worktop; we crafted an integrated surface solution.

• 30mm Worktops with a Single Pencil Edge: The 30mm thickness gives the worktops a substantial, premium feel. We finished the edge with a ‘single pencil’ profile—a soft, slightly rounded corner that is modern, clean, and safe for a family home.
• Belfast Sink and Drainage Grooves: A classic Belfast sink was a centrepiece of the design. We created a perfect, smooth cut-out for an undermount fit. To enhance functionality, we routed five tapered drainage grooves directly into the quartz, allowing water to drain effortlessly into the sink. This is a practical detail that also adds a touch of bespoke craftsmanship.
• Cohesive Surfaces: Upstands, Splashback, and Sills: To avoid harsh grout lines and create a flowing design, we installed 100mm upstands from the same Carrara Quartz. These run along the back of the worktops, creating a neat join with the wall. Behind the hob, a 20mm quartz splashback provides a durable and easy-to-clean surface. The final touch was fabricating three matching window sills, replacing the existing ones to ensure every surface in the room was perfectly coordinated.

The final result is nothing short of breathtaking. The polished Carrara Quartz acts as a light-reflecting surface, making the entire kitchen feel brighter and more spacious. It provides a stunning visual contrast with the deep green of the cabinets, creating a look that is sophisticated and on-trend, yet rooted in classic design principles.
