True granite is the most common and recognisable member of the granite family. It is typically composed of quartz, feldspar (both orthoclase and plagioclase), and mica (biotite or muscovite). The presence of these minerals in different proportions gives granite its wide range of colours and patterns. True granite is known for its hardness and durability, which makes it a favoured material for countertops and outdoor monuments. The quartz content gives it a speckled appearance, and the feldspar minerals contribute to the various hues, ranging from pinks and reds to greys and whites.
Granodiorite is similar to granite but has a different mineral composition, making it slightly darker in colour.
